Performance for a Coloured House
For the finale of the Ai Weiwei exhibition at the Marmorschlössl in Bad Ischl The Upper Austrian performance artist Doris Uhlich, who already caused a stir with her performance at the opening of the Capital of Culture, is presenting a specially designed program. Visitors can expect a poetic and melancholic performance by the internationally renowned artist in front of Ai Weiwei's Coloured House.
A colourful house in the middle of a home movie set — often you can't tell places from their past and yet you are gripped by a shiver. Artificial fog, light and sound turn the house and the landscape into a ghostly tableau in which Doris Uhlich immerses herself in Ai Weiwei's artwork and physically and performatively approaches the skeleton of the old Chinese house.
Like the present and the past, architecture and the body also have a complex relationship. Architecture enters bodies and at the same time the bodies change the architecture. The choreographer understands space as a body that we move and that moves us.
In the performance for and with the Coloured House, Doris Uhlich walks through invisible walls.
