Gootopia – Dripping Sculptures
Choreography and DJ Performance as part of the Feminist Futures Forever: International Conference
The Gootopian Times (from “goo,” meaning slime) program features various works and installations in which slime takes center stage – both as an expressive material and as a co-player – opening up a space of experience where disgust and empathy, horror and pleasure, the human and the non-human merge. In addition to Gootopia (Fragments) at TQW, brut Wien is presenting Gootopian Treatment, a series of one-on-one performances, and the Belvedere 21 is presenting Gootopia – Dripping Sculptures as a DJ performance as part of Feminist Futures Forever: International Conference.
In the performative installation Gootopia (Fragments), based on the 2021 stage production Gootopia, performers interact with various slime-like substances. The audience is invited to freely choose their position and perspective within this slippery universe and to understand the body as a porous, tangible organism constantly connected to other life forms.
In Gootopian Treatment, each person experiences a personal encounter with Doris Uhlich. Every encounter is intimate, calm, and personal. Slime becomes part of each treatment: a fascinating material that invites tactile exploration. The performance offers an opportunity to experience one’s own body and its boundaries in new ways. Together with Doris Uhlich, 99 participants in 99 time slots will enter a fluid world that opens bodies and creates connections.
In Gootopia – Dripping Sculptures, Doris Uhlich takes a sculptural approach, creating a time-based installation for Belvedere 21. Three “Dripping Sculptures” are developed with performers who interact with slime or invite the audience into contact with the material. Layers of slime and textiles extend the performers’ bodies, inviting viewers to contemplate gravity and fluidity. The installation-based performance transitions into a DJ set by Doris Uhlich.
