TANK site specific / Josephinum (durational performance)
How do new technologies change the way we think about the body? At the centre of the performance is a tank constructed by the Berlin-based collective Proper Space. Resembling an oversized test tube, the tank becomes a space in which the body can be presented as a field of experimentation and as an object of transformation.
The motif of the tank has been a major theme in science fiction since the second half of the 20th century. The tank represents the isolation of unknown and dangerous life forms. In Doris Uhlich’s solo performance, it becomes a site for studying and experimenting with bodily transformations. Following the stage version of the piece and site-specific versions at, among other venues, the Natural History Museum in Vienna and the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck, Doris Uhlich and Boris Kopeinig are developing a site-specific version for the Josephinum, where art history and medical history, anatomical knowledge, and ideas surrounding the naked body converge.
The durational performance is accompanied by four performers appearing in transparent protective suits from Doris Uhlich’s Habitat / pandemic version (2020), intertwining memories of the recent pandemic with the stories of the body brought together at the Josephinum.
The museum admission ticket also serves as the ticket for the performance TANK site specific / Josephinum.

Symposium: The Naked Body in Art, Medicine and Ethics
Following an event held in January 2023, the Josephinum once again turns its attention to the naked human body. To what extent is the viewing and touching of the (naked) human body connected to the development of medicine? What insights have been and continue to be gained from it? And in which situations is nudity accepted in other areas of our lives and culture?
This symposium explores a wide range of aspects within medicine and ethics, as well as art history and contemporary visual and performing arts.

Monika Ankele, Francesca S. Croce, Christiane Druml, Jakub Gawkowski, Tabea Ott, Monika Pietrzak-Franger, Bruno Podesser, Doris Uhlich, Beatrix Volc-Platzer
